Word 6 – Energy

I wanted to include some unique typography in this collection of visual interpretations, though I think using words can be boring… or at least from the english language. I contacted my friend from Korea and asked him to translate the word “Energy” into Hangul as precisely as he could. What he gave me was 활동력. I checked the definition in google translate and true to his word, it meant Energy.

I wanted to use an existing photo for this, and I almost immediately knew what I wanted to create. I used a photo from a shoot in Derbyshire some time ago, I then used the words to create an energetic quality instead of just writing the word once, the result is below: (ALL PHOTOS MAKEUP, STYLING ECT IS MY OWN)

Basically what I did here was simply choose 4 fonts that best suited Hangul in my opinion, then duplicated them, selecting them with the magic wand and putting that selection onto another layer of my photo, before inverting this selection and deleting the outside, leaving the word which I then lightened. I also used the pen tool to draw around my sister in the photo so I could overlap her on top of the words as I didn’t want her to be covered. I then straightened out the image so the words looked like they were on a slant. What I like about using Hangul (Korean) is that people are literally reading “Energy” more blatantly than ever, and they don’t even know it. I chose this picture because I think it exudes a sort of serene and awakening energy that I like. I didn’t edit the photograph, it is the original colours, the words are the only thing I edit onto this –

ENERGYa

There aren’t any notes for this because I already had the image and knew what I wanted to do with it.

That is pretty much it for this mini project, I hope you enjoyed :3
